The Club and golf course first opened in 1922 and was the creation of the legendary British Golf Architect, Charles Hugh Alison (1882-1952). It was relocated in 1970 to the community of Unionville, Ontario. Designed by the acclaimed Architects, Cornish and Robinson, it is now recognized as one of Ontario's premier private golf clubs. The Club offers 27-holes of golf with no tee times required. It has continued to build its reputation by hosting prestigious events such as the Ontario Men's and Ladies' Amateur Championships.
York Downs is also recognized as a community leader. It has special memberships that allow community kid's to play golf without their parents being members of the Club. It also participates in social employment programs and in a number of community initiatives. York Downs recently received the 'United Way York Region Spirit Award' - the Local Business Support Award for our efforts to support the community.
